Step into the woods with a trained eye and learn the plant knowledge every resilient Michigander should carry. This class teaches you how to confidently identify, harvest, and use the wild foods and natural medicines growing all around you—skills that once belonged to every household and are now essential again for anyone serious about preparedness.
You’ll explore Michigan’s forests, fields, and shoreline ecosystems while learning how to distinguish safe, edible species from their toxic lookalikes. We cover practical, field-tested methods for gathering and processing wild plants, from trail-side snacks to high-value medicinal species used for teas, tinctures, poultices, and emergency care. Students walk away with a working understanding of seasonal availability, ethical harvesting, and the core plants that matter most when the grid goes down.
This is not a classroom lecture. It’s hands-on, outdoors, and built for beginners and experienced foragers alike. By the end, you’ll know how to read the landscape, recognize key plant families, and build real confidence in your ability to feed and care for yourself using the resources nature provides.
