Fool for a Good Cause: An Evening Supporting Hi-Desert Theatre
About this Event
Join us at Z Club in Joshua Tree for an evening of live music, themed cocktails, raffle prizes, and community as we celebrate the launch of The Karma Compound and its inaugural production of Fool for Love. Help bring immersive theatre to life in the Hi-Desert while enjoying good company and supporting a good cause.
Featuring musical performances by Catt & The Deacon, Señora Jack "The Whistling Cowboy," and friends!
This August, The Karma Compound will transform The Palms in Wonder Valley into a site-specific roadside attraction for three nights only, serving as the backdrop for one of Sam Shepard's most celebrated works, Fool for Love.
Rather than presenting the play on a traditional stage, audiences will arrive early to experience live music, environmental storytelling, and the atmosphere of a world inspired by the drive-up culture, roadside motels, and desert mythology of the American West. As the sun sets, the performance unfolds beneath the desert sky, blurring the line between witness and performance.
Directed by Christi Waldon, Fool for Love features Lette Allen as May, Deacon Ledges as Eddie, Michael D. Simpson as Martin, and Kevin Bone as The Old Man. The production also features pre-show music by Catt Christine and Mick Leonardy.
As a new artist-led theatre company, our goal is not only to bring ambitious work to the desert, but to build a model where the artists creating it are valued and compensated for their contributions. Funds raised through this event will help offset production costs, allowing more of the show's revenue to go directly to the actors, musicians, designers, and collaborators at the heart of the production.
Come for the good tunes and good vibes. Stay for a "Daddy Issues Cocktail," a little raffle luck, and to be a part of the launch of something new in the Hi-Desert.
General Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
