Food and Labour Justice for All: Migrant Farmworker Awareness Week at SFU

Thousands of migrant farmworkers make their way to Canada every year through Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Programs to work in diverse facets of agricultural production. While their labour is essential to the food we consume and for generating billions of dollars in profits for Canadian agriculture, little is known about their lives.

This year we will be officially observing Migrant Farmworker Awareness Week among migrant and food justice scholars and grassroots organizations in British Columbia for the first time.

We are hosting a lunchtime event for Migrant Farmworker Awareness Week with two exciting guest speakers: Gabriel Allahdua, former migrant worker from St. Lucia and Aaraon Mendiburu Diaz, filmmaker and researcher based in Mexico. Together we will discuss the lives of migrant workers and reflect upon the current chains of food production that links us all.
