About this Event
Welcome to the FIRST International Film Festival Public Programming – New York Columbia University Station, presented by IN·OR. Join us on April 11 at 6:00 PM at Columbia’s Lerner Roone Arledge Cinema for a special screening of An Elephant Sitting Still, the acclaimed debut and final film by director Hu Bo. Set against the backdrop of a bleak northern Chinese city, the film weaves together four deeply human stories over the course of a single day, capturing the weight of isolation, longing, and quiet resilience. This event is part of FIRST Public Programming, bringing Chinese cinema to international audiences. We invite you to immerse yourself in this cinematic experience and stay afterward for open reflection and conversation with the producer Yitian Gao.
FIRST Public Programming is the offline screening brand during the non-film festival. FIRST Public Programming origins from the College Tour. During the non-film festival, in the form of screening tour, Public Programming showcases the FIRST-selected films to the audience all over the world. FIRST tries to break the narrative limitation of screening space with the two-season tour: we goes to urban art space in winter and colleges in spring, trying to show young filmmakers’ works to a wider space, more viewing groups and therefore triggering more discussion.
