About this Event

Learn how to tell YOUR story!

Join the Formerly Incarcerated People's Performance Project (FIPPP) behind the scenes to see how we craft our stories. This Bay Area Theatre Week workshop shares part of the creation process that gets attendees on their feet, working collaboratively with our FIPPP storytellers and professional directors. You will also get to see excerpts of FIPPP performers' works in process on Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 11 AM to 2 PM. .

This is a rare opportunity to be engaged in the creative process with FIPPP. Participants may be asked to join in storytelling exercises and group activities to understand the experience from the inside out. No storytelling experience required. This workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Limited to 20 participants. These stories include frank portrayals of the causes and impacts of incarceration, including descriptions of physical violence, substance abuse, and racial trauma. We welcome attendees 18+ years of age.

FIPPP features formerly incarcerated performers telling stories about their life experiences. FIPPP believes that sharing the stories of those who have been formerly incarcerated will foster compassion and understanding about the circumstances that may lead to incarceration. For our audiences, the stories at FIPPP are meant to bring hope and shed light on the inhumane conditions prisoners often endure during and after incarceration and help change the world one story at a time.

Since our founding six years ago, we have grown into a full-fledged theater company with a team of eight professional theater directors and twenty formerly incarcerated performers.

FIPPP’s programming has grown along with its impact, evolving from one initial performer wanting to share his solo story to year-round training and programming.

Be a part of it!
