Meet the Instructor:
Meshay 'Nuna' Long is a fingerweaver and second language learner who resides in the Big Y community. She was taught the art form by her mother, Diana 'Dee' Crowe. While she mostly weaves belts and hat bands, Meshay recently expanded her art form by creating and modeling a finger woven top for the 2025 Kananesgi Fashion Show. Additionally, Meshay made a belt to be added to the Museum of the Cherokee People's permanent collection in September 2025; the piece is titled 'Anitsalagi Tsunadenv, Cherokee Homelands,' which depicts the Great Smoky Mountains.
One of Meshay's goals is to increase the number of fingerweavers in the community. In her efforts, she has taught classes for the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program, Dadiwonisi, and Ray Kinsland Leadership Institute - Right Path. Keep up to date with and support Meshay's work on Instagram @meshaylong.
