About this Event
By popular demand the fermentation workshop is back in Calder Valley! This event is designed for all who would like to learn about one of the most fascinating ways of food preservation: lactic acid fermentation. Think gherkins and sauerkraut, the real deal.
Packed with information about gut health, dietary choices and ideas how to improve our gut microbiome, this popular and fun event has yielded dozens of happy fermenters across the North of England.
During the session, we will:
- Explore the history of fermenting around the world and the science of its workings in our body
- We will go through the newest research on food: Ultra processed foods, organic and local - what does it do and what's the best?
- Taste a variety of fermented foods and drinks to give your gut a gentle introduction to the new culture and your taste buds an experience that may shape your future food choices
- Make four ferments for you to take home and start your fermenting obsession straight away
- Ongoing Q&A tailored to your situation
Join me at private downstairs room in Kindness Cafe and learn about the simple Polish-style fermentation process, including the roles of various herbs and spices, equipment needed and after-care.
With spring at the door, it's time to prepare yourself for fresh produce and learning new skills will come handy not just during upcoming harvest season, but for the years to come. Let's look back at methods that our ancestors used for millennia and which are now proven to be the key to a healthy gut.
Warning: according to past participants, this hobby is highly addictive. Spouses must be forewarned and jar space in the household must be accomodated.
