About this Event

We are excited to announce our 2nd Summer Season Fermentation Club on Wednesday, July 22nd , from 6.459.30pm.

Our fifth gut gathering will be a deep dive into KOMBUCHA.

We’re honoured to welcome our special guest speaker, James Bayliss-Smith, founder of Nania's Wildbrew based in Easton, Bristol, where he's been making raw, unpasteurised, naturally effervescent barrel-fermented Kombucha since 2020. James will walk us through everything we need to know about this ancient fermented drink; from how it's made to how to spot the fake stuff.

The evening will include:

  • The different styles and types of Kombucha.
  • What fake Kombucha is, why it's everywhere and how to identify it.
  • A live brewing demo with tips and techniques to get you started at home.
  • A guided tasting of a range of Kombucha flavours.
  • And all your Kombucha questions answered!

The aim is that you leave confident and ready to brew your own. James will have SCOBYs to share* and planty of samples to tantalise your taste buds! (*bring a jar to take your SCOBY home).

Introduction by Laure Boutrais, Naturopath & founder of Absorb Health, on the origins, uses and health benefits of Kombucha - and the differences with Water Kefir.

We'll have our sharing table - The Fermentation Station - where we can all sample each others homemade ferments (ours and yours; please bring your latest creation if you've made one!**), and connect with James, Laure and fellow fermenters to share tasters, stories, tips, techniques and microbiome chat.

And for those who want to elevate the experience, you’ll have the option to order and enjoy a specially prepared fermentation club cicheti plate from the Bacareto Kitchen.

You will be greeted with a welcome drink on arrival!

Come curious, leave inspired!

**You will be very welcome to sample the ferments even if you don't bring one yourself : )
