Father’s Day 08 Shunter Driving Experience 🚂
Looking for a truly unique Father’s Day gift?
This Father’s Day, give your dad the chance to take control of one of our heritage diesel locomotives and experience driving our 08 shunter on the steep gradients of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.
Starting from Platform 3 at Wirksworth Station, dad and up to six guests will meet their instructor before climbing aboard for this unforgettable experience, lasting approximately 20–30 minutes.
After being introduced to the controls, your dad will drive the locomotive north from Wirksworth, pulling our traditional Toad brake van towards Ravenstor.
The journey climbs steadily past our maintenance shed, beneath Cemetery Lane bridge and around the curve towards the railway’s famous 1-in-27 gradient before arriving at Ravenstor Platform 1.
Following a short pause for photographs and a little history of the line, comes the really exciting part…
Your dad will take full control of the brakes as he carefully guides the locomotive back down the steep incline towards Wirksworth Station.
