About this Event
What is the Farming Roadmap 2050?
On June 24th 2026, the government released it's 25-year plan for the future of farming in England. This document was designed to give farmers greater certainty and clarity about the direction of government policy, and where farmers should look to invest monies and efforts.
The government's vision for English farming is to be food producing and commercially viable, while becoming more environmentally sustainable for the changes that climate changes brings.
The plan is built around four overarching priorities: Profitability, Productivity, Sustainability, and Resilience. Across this series of farm visits and farm walks, we will visit farms who are demonstrating one or multiple aspects of this plan.
On this walk we are visiting a farm that is adoptng practices to retain water across the farm including within their soils, increasing resilience during droughts and flood events.
Our Host - Mill Farm
Mill Farm is owned and farmed by the MacGregor family, and is a mixed organic farming business. Alongside pedigree Beef Shorthorn cattle and Poll Dorset sheep, the farm prides itself as farming in partnership with the environment.
On the walk, we will see how the farm has measures in place to capture, retain, and reuse water, as well as enhancing soil health for the benefit of a variety of crops. We will also see how the farm is creating multi-benefit habitats, including ponds, that can capture water for farm use and for mammals, reptiles, and insects.

Info: Fergus will give a short introduction to his farm and the soil and water management practices he carries out before going into more detail on the farm walk. The FWAG team Henry, Abby and Ben will also be talking about Nature based solutions, pond restoration and the farming roadmap 2050 along with our new service whole farm planning, how they link together to help the future of farming and why what Fergus is doing is beneficial.
