Fall Gardening at Edgewood Community Farm
About this Event
Tasks vary depending on needs of the farm, but can include pruning, harvesting, trellising, and removing weeds and invasive plants. All participants will get to take home free herbs and flowers from the farm! There will be an optional dinner at Bryant Street Market after the work has been completed.
Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they don't mind getting dirty or painted on. We also recommend bringing bottled water, bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, and any other sun protection. Volunteer days happen in most weather, we'll only cancel in cases of severe conditions and will notify your group in advance.
Edgewood Community Farm is a nonprofit urban farm in Washington, D.C. advancing food justice and addressing food insecurity in Ward 5. They grow and share fresh food, provide hands-on gardening education, and steward free, shared green space where neighbors connect across generations, cultures, and incomes, with a focus on serving low-income residents, people of color, queer community members, and immigrants.
The Farm is on the corner of Adams and 2nd Street NE via the Edgewood neighborhood in DC. You can access the farm via the 2304 residential steps and the red wooden staircase to the left. Zoned and unzoned street parking is generally available nearby, and transit is less than a 12-minute walk from the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station and several bus lines.
