About this Event
Inky Fingers Workshop has been commissioned by Creative Arc to run a series of workshops for Exeter residents that will lead to the printing of a zine/booklet about the city that we all live, work and play in!
Facing Exeter is an artist-led project, where you are invited to come along to any of the workshops and contribute. The workshops last for 2 hours and each has a different theme and creative activity.
After all four workshops, we will collate and print your work for the Rebel Zine imprint, to distribute and share copies with you at a celebration event!
1: Healthy, Happy, Here [15th November 10am – 12pm, with Tuong Nguyen]- A collaborative art workshop, artist-led, that invites participants to work together to imagine and create a unique visual work for a portrait of a future Exeter where everyone can feel healthy and happy. In this workshop, we will explore and discuss the concept of a holistic healthy, happy city, then express those ideas through creative artmaking. Each person will create 1-3 little individual pieces using images, words, symbols, patterns, or even textures – any 2D way they would like to show their vision. Finally, everyone’s pieces will be gathered and rearranged into one large, collective artwork – a unique picture that reflects our shared hopes, voices, and dreams for Exeter’s future.
2: One, No one and One Hundred Thousand [13th December 10am – 12pm with Beatrice Corsetti] – Join us for a balanced personal and collective creativity, an unbounded reimagining of reality, offering a fresh vision and an alternative, inspiring portrait of Exeter- strengths and areas for improvement. Think about the different areas in Exeter. How is life there, what’s the main purpose? What’s the beauty? Find new elements that speak about the people living there.
3: Building on Success [24th January 10am – 12pm, with Stuart Crewes] – An exploration of the past, present and future architectures and public spaces of the city of Exeter. Join us for a collage and creative design workshop as we think about the city’s built and public spaces – what works and what could improve? What might the city be known for in the future? We’ll be thinking about the city through 4 aspects: People and more-than-humans; built environment; natural environment; infrastructure. Make and take home your vibrant design plus contribute to the collective vision and imaginings.
4: In Conversation [14th February 10am-12pm, with Victoria Clarke] - A creative, visual dialogue between the city of Exeter and us. Let’s find the voices of the city, and find our place in it. What do we want to tell Exeter, and what does it have to tell us? We will make images and use words to imagine up a conversation in collage. You will find ways to depict yourself in this place, so bring along a photo of yourself, &/or scraps or images from Exeter that mean something to you.
There will be a sharing celebration event [28th February 10am - 12pm] where we will have copies of the zine for you to take away and share with friends!
All of the workshops are free to attend.
We ask that children under 14 are accompanied by an adult.
Due to the nature of the funding for this activity, we will be asking for your name and postcode as a part of participating.
This project is funded with the support of the Creative Arc Programme, an initiative funded by the University of Exeter, Exeter City Council and the UK government through the Shared Prosperity Fund.
