About this Event
FABSCRAP Textile Intensive Agenda & Topics
Day 1: Aug 18, 2-5pm
- Weave and Knit Structures: An examination of fabric construction enabling you to know the difference between various structures and how they influence performance, longevity, and functional use.
- Fiber Fundamentals: Detailed breakdown of natural, synthetic, blended, and regenerative fibers, helping you identify their properties, understand how they’re made, distinguish between them, determine their best uses, and evaluate their environmental impact.
- Compare and contrast fabric types: Combining the knowledge learned from structure and fiber to learn fabric names and their classifications. Deeper dive into the subtle variances of weave and knit structures and how fibers factor into the final textile. Familiarity with fashion names of fabric, and apply new found knowledge to understand the drape and application of a fabric when different fibers are used for the same weave.
Day 2: Aug 19, 2-5pm
- Recyclability and Circularity Principles: An overview of how textiles move through their lifecycle empowering you to make strategic decisions that improve product longevity, reduce waste, and advance circular practices.
- Diving Deeper into Pre-Consumer Textile Feedstock: drawing from FABSCRAP's Smarter Swatches audit, we'll review what is still holding back the textile recycling industry, and how to move towards circularity, applying the concepts you learned in this intensive to real-world contexts.
FABSCRAP is a nonprofit organization that has pioneered a system to recycle and reuse fabric waste, creating an educational and accessible materials resource for creative communities while reducing the fashion industry’s impact on the planet. www.fabscrap.org | @fab_scrap
