About this Event
Take part in this exciting free 4-day Exotic Animal Care and Handling course led by Animal Teach. Plus, a free £20 Amazon voucher for everyone who successfully completes the course.
This is a great chance to explore animal care at your own pace, whether you’re completely new to it or getting back into learning after a break. The course is designed to help you build confidence, follow your curiosity, and enjoy learning in a supportive environment.

Course Breakdown:
Day 1: Animal Nutrition You’ll get hands-on preparing food for a range of reptiles and invertebrates. You’ll learn basic kitchen skills, safe food handling, and what different animals need to stay healthy.
Day 2: Animal Health Discover why routine health checks are important. You’ll even get the chance to do a simple, supervised check on a real animal, helping you build confidence and understanding of animal wellbeing.
Day 3: Animal Welfare Learn about the Five Animal Welfare Needs and get creative by designing and making an enrichment item for one of our animals or even for your own pets at home. This session encourages creativity and empathy.
Day 4: Animal Housing and Accommodation Design and build a mini animal habitat using materials suitable for the species you’re working with. You’ll develop problem-solving skills and learn how to meet animals’ environmental needs.

No prior experience is required for any activity, and all equipment will be provided by us. Our friendly tutors will be there to support you every step of the way.
Who can get involved?
This course is open to young adults aged 18–21 from the Liverpool City Region who are not currently in education, employment or training (NEET).
When is this course?
This course is made up of four, daily, 3-hour sessions.
Tuesday 3rd February - Friday 6th February, 10:30 am - 1:30 pm.
Where will the workshop take place?
YMCA St Helens Youth Hub, St Helens, WA10 2TJ.
How much does it cost?
This project is generously funded by Youth Guarantee, with delivery support from VOLA, and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, therefore it is free to attend.
What equipment should I bring?
Animal Teach and Digital Arts Box will bring all of the equipment needed to participate in this course.
