Dandy Farmer Bonsai | Brooklyn, NY
About this Event
Learn basic bonsai techniques to start transforming plants into bonsai. Learn why it is important to have a good soil mix, root-prune, repot, and choose the right angles when repotting. Take this knowledge home and apply it to other plants as well.
In this class we will work on the European Olive, also known as 'Olivia' (here at the bonsai shop).
The olive tree's oblong leaves have a silvery sheen that help protect it from the harsh direct sun, and the trunk naturally twists when older. Just like her natural sunny habitat, she likes full sun and tolerates warm locations in summer. In winter, cooler locations are best, above 50F and away from heaters.
Symbolism: The olive branch is the symbol for peace. The practice of 'offering an olive branch' as a symbol of peace has been around since ancient roman times.
This class is for beginners to intermediate.
TOTAL SEATS: 5
Materials Provided: One handmade small bonsai planter in white, one bonsai tree, soil, decorative rocks, necessary tools for repotting. Other materials on site available for purchase.
About the instructors:
Matthew Puntigam lived and worked in Tokyo for 7 years learning bonsai techniques and garden skills while apprenticing at a garden design and bonsai shop. He opened Dandy Farmer in 2016 to bring the art of bonsai to the NYC community.
