About this Event
Earth Month Forest Bathing – Climate Emotions
A Special Earth Month Edition of our Forest Bathing Walk at Evergreen Brick Works
OVERVIEW
This April, in honour of Earth Month, the Forest Bathing Club invites you to something a little deeper.
Offered at Evergreen Brick Works, this is an introductory walk to the practice of Forest Bathing. For this special Earth Month edition, we're weaving in intentional space to explore climate emotions: the grief, love, awe, anxiety, and hope that many of us carry in relationship to the natural world and the ecological challenges of our time.
This walk is for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by the state of the planet and anyone who has ever felt restored by a moment in nature.
(It is both of those things at once)
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Organized by the Forest Bathing Club in partnership with Evergreen Brick Works, these walks are offered to the public as an introductory experience to the practice of Forest Bathing. Led by Emily Pleasance, artist and Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide, this 2.5 hour experience will offer you a space to drop into your body, tune into your senses, and connect with the more-than-human world.
For this Earth Month edition, the walk will also include:
- A gentle introduction to climate emotions — what they are, why they matter, and why feeling them is an act of care
- Reflection on why Forest Bathing matters for the planet, and how this practice is a form of ecological relationship-building
- Invitations to be with the land not just as a place of restoration, but as a living community we are in relationship with
You will be introduced to the concept of all beings, have stories told about the land, and be offered alternative ways of being with yourself, each other, and nature.
Unlike a hike where there is a destination, this practice is about arriving here, in the present moment.
Once you have attended this public introductory walk, you will have the opportunity to join FBC's Monthly Gathering walk where we come in community to practice together as a gesture towards internal environmental activism.
HOW IT WORKS:
- No prior experience is necessary
- Slow and relaxed walk with time to rest
- Approximately 2.5hrs (route no longer than 1km)
- Invitations offering you to be with nature
PREPARATION:
- Wear layered clothing and dress for -10 degrees cooler than the forecast. This is not a brisk walk, so we will not be creating body heat to support us. Choose clothing that offers a lot of warmth, knowing you can always remove layers to cool down.
- Bring weather-appropriate and comfortable clothing, a water bottle, and an open mind.
- Recommended to BRING A HAT – Brick Works has many open areas with lots of sun!
