About this Event
Durham and the General Strike 100 years on
Join us for a panel discussion on the impact and legacy of the General Strike on Durham and beyond, a century later. On the panel will be Dr Lewis Mates (SGIA, Durham University), Heather Woods (Women Against Pit Closures and honorary graduate of Durham University), Edd Mustill (Author, Britain's Revolutionary Summer - The General Strike of 1926), chaired by Dr Sol Gamsu (Sociology, Durham University).
We will focus on the strike itself, Sol with chair and will provide a brief report on how the students newspaper at Durham covered the strike.
The talk will be in the University, in the Engineering Dept room E101 and hybrid online on Teams, link to follow.
The Northern Echo has some excellent articles on the durham context: https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/26067509.northern-echo-reported-great-strike-may-1926/
