🌈 Absolutely ALL (adult) people are welcome here (16+, barring the occasional family events)— We honor you in love and care, holding us all to the same standard. 🙏
📆 Join us each Sunday from 11am-1pm at Sylvester Powell Jr Community Center in the aerobics room (follow the signs!) to gather, wiggle, reflect, breathe, release, manifest, laugh, cry, party, meditate, give, receive, be, and share in the M A G I C of compassionate communication and ecstatic dance.
“What can I expect on my first day?”
🧘♀️ We begin sitting in a circle at 11am to check in, often centering ourselves as a group with a gratitude intention before warming up by perhaps exploring a particular rhythm/element, or doing a short yoga or qigong flow, tapping our facia to awaken and engage our bodies, etc etc.
🎶 The playlists we dance to are designed to easily invite you to journey with yourself through an energetic wave that mimics the stillness, rise, and fall of life.
💕 Once we've ridden that way to it's peak and down to stillness once again, our movement is complete-- We find our way back to a sitting circle (if you feel called to join it) to reflect and close our time together. 🙏
“What is Ecstatic Dance?”
🪩 Ecstatic Dance is what it sounds like: Dancing ecstatically!
Ecstatic dance is a simple, freeing, and primal method to somatically heal and connect to ourselves and all of nature. While it is an ancient practice in many cultures, with many names and intentions, the phrase "ecstatic dance" was coined by the dancer and author Gabrielle Roth*. In Dance Tribe, we often like to think if it in **Elemental Movement terms: Starting in the stillness of Spirit, then beginning to awaken in the womb of Water, then we rise and grow with the stability and nourishment of the Earth, which leads us to the transformative magic of Fire, floating into the spaciousness of Air, and gently bringing ourselves to a point of Beingness; of Peace. Of Spirit.
