Driftwood with the Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs

If you’ve ever been to one of Driftwood’s live shows, you know how lucky and excited we are to have them playing right here on our very own Doodad Farm stage again on October 2. Out of Binghamton, NY, we first hosted them in 2012, and we always invite them back when they’re in the area. Why? Because they’re a group of beautiful people who love each other, and that love shines in their energy and their music. As Joe Kollar (banjo and guitar) said, “Driftwood is basically a beautiful friendship that happens to play music together.”
Music has guided Driftwood to hallowed ground many times since its founding members, Joe Kollar and Dan Forsyth, started making music as high schoolers in Joe's parents' basement. Whether the Upstate New York folk rock group—which today also includes violinist Claire Byrne, bassist Joey Arcuri, and drummer Sam Fishman—are converting new fans on a hardscrabble tour across the country or playing to a devoted crowd at hero Levon Helm’s Woodstock barn, the band’s shapeshifting approach to folk music continues to break new ground. And yet in many ways Driftwood's latest work, the transformative December Last Call, finds the group coming home.

THE BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTNING BUGS:
If Jerry Garcia and Tom Waits made an Appalachian music duo, it might sound a little like the Brown Mountain Lightning Bugs. Hailing from Winston-Salem, NC Zack and Kendra Harding blend the traditional with the trippy to create original music they like to call folk(ish). Officially formed in 2016, the two have played extensively throughout the US, as well as toured internationally. They recently returned from a tour to the UK and Ireland, and are working on completing their third album. Their unique blend of sounds and easygoing personalities have recently earned the duo slots at Mill Farm Music Party (UK), Front Porch Fest, Rockwood Music Hall, Piedmont Folkways, and more.

HOW TO JOIN US:
You never need a ticket or a reservation to attend one of our concerts - just show up. If we had a gate, it would open at 6pm. Feel free to show up earlier than that, even, if you just want to enjoy the weather, have a picnic, or just hang out (though we may ask you to help set up!). The show will start at 7pm.
Doodad Farm never charges for entry to concerts, though we do request that those who are able (and you know who you are) donate at the stage area. Every penny of donations goes straight to the performers. We think $20-25 per person is a reasonable donation for this show. As always, we ask that you surprise yourself with your own generosity to support our performers.
OTHER DETAILS:
• Kids, dogs, and all your friends are always welcome. Doodad Farm is a SAFE PLACE for everyone.
• Please bring CASH for your donation to the performers and for merch purchases.
• This is an outside, farm-like setting (thus the name). Dress like you’re going camping and you’ll be fine.
• We never allow weapons of any sort at the farm. If you think you need to protect yourself, you’re in the wrong place.
• Bring your own beverages, and consume them responsibly. Of course snacks and picnics are welcome.
• If you’re a sitter, bring a chair. We have some extras if you forget.
• Smoking is permitted as long as you don’t bother anyone or do any butt-dropping.
• Please clean up after yourself and treat the Farm as if it’s your own (in a way, it is!).
• Portable toilets and drinking water will be available.
• Let someone help you park, especially if the field is wet.
