Down to the River and Up to the Trees

An evening of talks about Batheaston’s water, wildlife, suffragettes, trees, beavers and more!

Following Grow Batheaston's two sold-out talks in 2024 and 2025 about the beavers and the River Avon, this year's talk will focus on Batheaston’s trees, from the last remaining Austrian Pine from the arboretum planted by the suffragettes, to the riverside willows recently felled by the beavers. We have invited artists, scientists and activists to share their passion, practice and research with us. The evening will explore our local River Avon and trees through these different lenses and the sights and smells of the land and the wildlife around them.

Come and hear artist and environmentalist Lucy Neal talk about the ten year durational project Walking Forest and its connection to Batheaston's Suffragettes, aromatherapist and artist Lindsay Woodman introduce us to the sight, sound, touch and smell of the river, passionate woodland protector Phil Sturgeon talk about Protect Earth and the Warleigh Nature Reserve, researcher Dylan Beckham and Emma Fennell Hodson from Avon Wildlife Trust on the study of DNA of our local beavers, and award-winning wildlife film maker Aleks Domanski with even more extraordinary films of his favourite river creatures.
