When assessing a nation’s success, economic activity is frequently cited as a stand-in for societal well-being. Yet economic growth alone tells only part of the story, often overlooking the quality of our lives and the condition of the environment. Join 350 Pensacola and Healthy Gulf as we ask a fundamental question: How can we create an economy where everyone can thrive while respecting the ecological boundaries of the planet?
Doughnut Economics offers a way forward, with a visual framework for sustainable development that balances human social foundations with planetary ecological ceilings to create a safe and just space for humanity to thrive. The Doughnut Economics model was created by economist Kate Raworth.
Our presenter is Amanda Post, who has spent more than seven years working in coastal restoration, where she teaches professional courses on environmental regulation and conducts research on coastal dune vegetation. Her academic background in international economic development sparked a lasting interest in how policy and culture shape the way we care for the environment. Amanda holds a degree in International Studies from the University of West Florida.
Join us for a discussion of this innovative framework and discover how it challenges us to rethink what progress truly means.
