About this Event
The Chinese Embassy in Canada will open its doors to the public during Doors Open Ottawa 2026 on June 6 (Saturday) from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
As China-Canada relations have entered a new chapter of building a new strategic partnership following Prime Minister Mark Carney’s successful visit to China in January this year, the Embassy is delighted to invite you to experience a landmark that embodies both the diplomatic ties and the rich cultural exchanges between the two countries. Whether you are an architecture enthusiast or a curious explorer, don’t miss this special celebration of history, art, architecture, and friendship.
Echoing this year’s Doors Open Ottawa theme, Doors to the Past: Bytown’s Bicentennial Journey, this remarkable heritage building dates back to 1875, when it was originally constructed as a monastery by Mother Marie of the Order of Our Lady of Charity. Rebuilt after a fire in 1938, the building became the home of the Chinese Embassy in 1972.
Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the building’s intricate architecture, uncover stories of China-Canada cooperation and friendship, and explore the latest advancements in cutting-edge technologies showcased by Chinese-funded companies.
Several themed photo exhibitions will be presented in the Embassy main building, including:
- Photo Exhibition of the History of China-Canada Relations;
- Photo Exhibition of the History of the Embassy Main Building;
- Photo Exhibition of Dr. Norman Bethune in China;
- Photo Exhibition of the Dunhuang Culture (To be confirmed)
The booths of the following Chinese companies are on-site for exhibitions and interactions, ranging from cutting-edge innovations to high-quality home appliances and necessities (listed in alphabetical order):
