Dogs in a Pile

The sandy shores of Asbury Park, New Jersey are hallowed ground in the northeast; the rolling waves have ushered generations of iconic musicians to worldwide acclaim. Dogs in a Pile has emerged as the heir apparent to the town’s rich musical legacy. If you want to talk about the genres navigated by this eclectic quintet, you’d mention funk, jazz, and jam-rock, dancing through unspooling threads of playful psychedelia. But it goes well beyond that… there’s a decisive “X-Factor” woven through their completely original vibe. It’s built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes summoning the ghosts of yesteryear while conjuring images of a limitless future.

The Dogs employ a unified approach to performance and songwriting, crafting aural mosaics through adept instrumentation and a symbiotic surrender to in-the-moment manifestations. Their genesis dates back to when Philadelphia University of the Arts guitar gun-slinger Jimmy Law began playing with young Joe Babick (drums), a student at the Count Basie Theater program in Red Bank, NJ. Lightning struck when they were introduced to Berklee School of Music student and bass player Sam Lucid, who immediately suggested fellow Berklee student and keyboard player Jeremy Kaplan. The addition of fellow Berklee student Brian Murray (guitar) in 2019 made for the quintessential final piece in the Dogs’ puzzle.

A string of successful local shows drove the development of a massive northeast fan base, affectionately known as the Dog Pound. The band’s meteoric growth culminated in an epic, sold-out performance at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park during the summer of 2021. Since then, the band has continued to grow exponentially, making a splash at every stop along the way.

Their festival appearances have included High Sierra, Peach, Summer Camp, Resonance, SonicBloom, Jam Cruise and Sea Hear Now, among many others. They are considered by many to be one of the brightest up-and-coming talents in the overly saturated jam world. We’re very fortunate to have the opportunity to see them stretch their legs at the Crazy Horse for two nights. Each night will feature two sets and an assurance that the band will tap into the intimate venue’s legendary vibe to ascend to newfound heights. There’s a good chance you’ll never see the Dogs in a venue this small again, so clear your schedule and come both nights!
