About this Event
The Davis Humanities Institute (DHI) fosters research and collaborations within and beyond the humanities and arts, empowering scholars, students, and communities to engage with the most pressing global and local challenges.
Every year, the DHI awards Faculty Research Fellowships (FRFs) to a cohort of faculty working across academic disciplines and leveraging humanities and arts methodology to tackle critical or underexamined questions.
This year's cohort spans English and Creative Writing, Asian American Studies and Science and Technology Studies, Chicana/o/x Studies, Classics, and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. Their work explores topics as varied as the history of Black communities in California and the meaning of utopia within a history of racialized violence; the cultural, health, and environmental effects of Agent Orange as represented in art and community activism; the history of Napa Valley’s wine industry via the lives of Mexican and Indigenous women; Puerto Rico's relationship to Greco-Roman antiquity in the 19th and 20th centuries; and the rise of life insurance and its enmeshment in a broader, racialized financialization of life.
Please join us for an informal conversation with this year's Faculty Research Fellows, for unique insights into their scholarship and creative process. A Q&A and reception will follow the conversation.
The event is free and open to all (registration required).
