Long ago, Hetch Hetchy referred to a beautiful and lush valley located in today's Yosemite National Park. Then in 1913, it was impounded by the O'Shaughnessy Dam on the Tuolumne River. Ever since, it has referred to the reservoir that serves as the primary drinking water source for our great City, providing some of the freshest water in California to 2.7 million residents in the Bay Area.

But a debate has long ensued for whether or not to restore Hetch Hetchy to its previous state, restoring the valley and the wild nature that once thrived there.

So should we restore the Hetch Hetchy Valley, draining the reservoir, and moving all of our fresh water elsewhere?

Or should we maintain the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir as it is?

Where does this big change stand in the eyes of policymakers across the state?

How practical is that change, and what would it cost?
