Join us to celebrate Sonny Buttar's stunning debut novel, The Daughters of Rosebud. This multigenerational family saga will leave you at once heartbroken and hopeful. Sonny will be joined in conversation by Vanessa Hua, bestselling author of Coyoteland.

About the Book:

Salma and her older sister Asma were inseparable growing up in small-town Rosebud. While Asma was bold and fearless, Salma tried to keep the peace in their fractured family. But amid their mother's decline and their parents' rigid expectations, Asma makes a choice that tears the family apart. The fallout changes everything--and forces Salma to choose between her sister and her parents.
Salma has spent years trying to forget. But as she recollects her past and considers reconciliation with her father, a young student opens a surprising connection to Asma's past. In finally facing her history, Salma finds the bravery to love and hope again.

About the Author:
Sonny Buttar was born in Pakistan and raised in England and the American Midwest. Her first novel, The Daughters of Rosebud, will be released in October 2026.
About the Conversation Partner:
Vanessa Hua is the nationally bestselling author of Coyoteland, A River of Stars and Forbidden City, and the story collection Deceit and Other Possibilities, a New York Times Editors’ Pick. A National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow, she has also received a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, a California Arts Council Fellowship, and a Steinbeck Fellowship in Creative Writing, as well as honors from the de Groot Foundation, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Asian American Journalists Association. She was a finalist for the California Book Award, the Northern California Book Award, and the New American Voices Award. Previously, she was an award-winning columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. She teaches at the Warren Wilson MFA Program, Sewanee Writers Conference, and elsewhere. This fall, she is an Ann-Getty Endowed Visiting Artist-Scholar at the University of San Francisco. Her debut narrative nonfiction, Uprooted, is forthcoming.
