Dear Los Angeles Poetry Workshop

For so many of us, Los Angeles has been more than just a city — it’s been an integral part of our day to day, a side character in all our stories of heartbreak, magic, loss, and transformation.

In this month’s Poetry for the Masses workshop, Dear Los Angeles, we’ll romanticize Los Angeles through poetry, while also challenging her, and putting a mirror to her face. Through guided prompts and group discussion, we’ll explore the city’s many layers of smog and sunshine — its culture, history, contradictions and personal meaning to each of us.

What does it mean to live in, dream of, or remember our city? How have we made Los Angeles home?

Whether you’re a native Angeleno, an immigrant, a transplant, or just passing through, we invite you to engage with Los Angeles on the page — wholeheartedly, honestly, and with open eyes.

If this is your first time joining Poetry for the Masses, welcome! PFTM is led by creatives Alejandra Roggero and Jacob De La Vara, with the intention of fostering a poetry community through workshops and events that make the radical joy of art accessible to ALL. And we’ve been doing just that, alongside Burden of Proof, a non alcoholic bottle shop and market located in the heart of South Pasadena.
