Day Trip: Becky Basin (Self-drive)

Becky Basin, Currant Creek Ridge

Join Hogle Zoo staff on a survey of Becky Basin found on the southwest slope of the Uinta Mountains! Meet at the Sinclair Gas Station in Heber at 9AM. Look for Hogle Zoo staff waiting for you there. We will caravan to the site together.

Transportation: Your own personal/private vehicle. AWD or 4WD required. Expect mostly flat dirt roads, some minor ruts, some rocks. Drive to site from SLC is around 1.5-2 hrs, 1hr from Heber.

Difficulty: 5/10. Hike is around .75 mile with elevation change of 500ft one way. Short but steep! Off-trail. Downhill hike on way in, uphill on way out. Expect uneven terrain.

What to bring/wear: Comfortable hiking clothes and close-toed shoes you don't mind getting dirty/wet (light weight hiking pants/work pants recommended over shorts). A daypack with a packed lunch, snacks, water (minimum 32oz), sun protection (hat, glasses), rain jacket (rain pants if you have them), warm layers if needed, extra socks (keep these in your backpack). Water/rain boots or waders are recommended but not required (your feet are likely to get wet). Some prefer to wear light weight long sleeve shirts to protect them from getting scratched. You may also want comfortable dry shoes to change into at the end of the day.
