About this Event
*Darryl White* is a trumpeter whose career bridges the classroom and the bandstand. A native of Warren, Ohio, he's been playing trumpet since the age of 9. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Youngstown State University, a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado.
Before his current position at the *University of Nebraska*, Darryl's first college teaching appointment was at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. During his time in Denver, he was a member of the Aries Brass Quintet — in residence at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music — and the Denver Brass. At Lamont he was Instructor of Trumpet and participated with the Faculty Jazz Quintet.
The Darryl White Quartet has become a Blue Room favorite, with multiple appearances since 2023. Whether playing the straight-ahead jazz tradition or pushing into more modern territory, Darryl brings the kind of tone, phrasing, and command that only comes from a lifetime dedicated to the trumpet. Two sets on a Saturday night — this is what the room was built for.
