Dance Liberation Circle

If getting out on the dance floor sounds intimidating, but there's a part of you that dreams of busting loose and feeling totally wild and free (without tequila first) THIS IS FOR YOU.
Dancing is one of those things that tows the line of being totally embarrassing, totally boring, totally stressful, or totally awesome. And you might feel all those things here, but you will not be alone.
The Dance Liberation Circle helps us develop the skills, the mindset, and most importantly - the permission - to get rid of our self imposed limitations and let ourselves dance freely and enjoy life together in new ways.

We meet once a week, and each week is different. Our workshops follow an A/B/A/B schedule:
"A" weeks are for sitting, learning, reflecting and chatting,
"B" weeks are for getting up and moving our bodies.
Be sure to read each weeks' description to see what exactly we're getting into.

A few things to know:

-Please arrive on time (or early).

-Every week is different, so read the description of the event you’re signing up for.

-We NEVER take photos or record videos. What happens here stays here.

-Participation in all discussion and movement is voluntary, you always have permission to sit back and watch or listen.

-This isn’t group therapy, a debate club, or a dating scene. This group is about having curious discussions, sharing ourselves, and not taking things too seriously.

-Please sign up ahead of time, follow the directions to find us, and show up exactly as you are - tired, nervous, excited, real.

Feb 1st Styles, Culture & Commercialization

Dance styles don’t just appear, they are created out of necessity, shaped by culture, and altered by power.

In this workshop, we’ll examine how certain dance forms are born within specific communities, and how those forms change as they move into the mainstream. Through a handful of examples, we’ll explore the cycle of creation, appropriation, and commercialization, and what often gets lost along the way.

Feb 8th Guided Open Floor

Feb 15th Discussion Circle: Comparison, Envy

We'll discuss how to notice when comparison and envy show up in our own lives, and how we can transmute that energy

Feb 22nd DANCE PARTY

a 60 minute playlist with an opening and closing ceremony
