Cumberland Island is Georgia's southernmost barrier island, a National Seashore and designated wilderness area. Wild horses roam the island, sea turtles nest on the dunes and an array of wild creatures inhabit the island that feels truly magical.
Join WILD on our ladies intermediate backpacking trip as we head out to explore all 2 of the 3 wilderness sites on Cumberland Island. Departing Columbus Friday morning, we will drive to St. Mary’s to get on our ferry ride to the island. On Friday afternoon we will start our incredible fall backpacking trip in Cumberland Island’s designated wilderness on the northern part of the island.
Once we arrive on the island, we will backpack the 10.5 miles to the most beautiful campsite on the island: Brickhill Bluff, set up camp and enjoy the sunset. Saturday morning we will awake, pack up then backpack 10 miles through some of the least used and more remote trails of the island to our next campsite at Hickory Hill.
On Sunday we will pack up, head 5 miles to the southern part of the island where we will have time to explore the ruins of Dungeness before heading on the evening ferry back to St. Marys and then home.
Trip costs $385 per person and includes:
Round Trip ferry to and from Cumberland Island
2 nights camping on the island, including park fees
Fully guided backpacking trip
Backpacking Class that will discuss gear and food.
Basic backpacking gear (if needed) including backpacking backpack, sleeping pad, tent, backpacking stove and water filtration.
Spots are limited and trip will run rain or shine! Ladies only ages 10 and up please. Minors must be accompanied by a female parent/guardian. No hiking or backpacking experience is necessary, but you must be physically capable of hiking 12+ miles/day carrying a pack that will weigh on average 25-35lbs.
REFUND POLICY: In the event you need to cancel your spot you can receive a 80% refund 31 days prior to the trip. If you cancel within 30 days of the trip you will not receive a refund, and your ticket can not be applied to a future trip.
