About this Event
Join us on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, for a Culture & Cocktails presentation, "Rails Atop South Mountain: The Hagerstown & Frederick Trolleys." This exciting talk will be presented by Reuben Moss, Director of the National Road Museum and Boonsboro Trolley Station Museum, and President of the Hagerstown and Frederick Railway Historical Society.
Trolleys are often relegated as a footnote in local history and are sometimes excluded from lists of local railroads, but at one time this small railway was an important part of everyday life for dozens of area communities. Enjoy an exploration into the growth, impacts, and decline of the Hagerstown and Frederick Railway Company, its intertwined history with the Historic National Road, and how its influence still can be felt today.
From transportation to public services and community engagement, learn what this one railway did for the people of Washington and Frederick counties over its 50 years of operation in Hagerstown. Along the way, take a photographic tour of the route from Hagerstown to Williamsport as captured by 1940s railroad enthusiasts.
Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. C&C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Refreshments and one complimentary drink ticket are included with each ticket.
This month's cocktail is inspired by historical railways and will be announced in the new year!
