A community lecture with a bite to eatA potted history of the three statutory new towns established in County Durham; Newton Aycliffe in 1947, Peterlee in 1948 and Washington in 1964; their objectives and progress through the decades, and impact on the north east as a whole up to and after their closures in 1988.
Ged Parker - originally from Manchester- came to work for Washington Development Corporation after starting his professional career in Telford New Town. He was responsible for commercial market research and took part in negotiations with some of the biggest investments in the later years of the new town. In the final years of the Corporation he was the trade union chair involved in its run down and the transfer of functions to other authorities.

- You can preorder your food with your ticket or buy on the day, attendance to these lectures is free but we encourage you to make a donation if you're able.
