About this Event

As part of From Venice with Love, GMCVB Art of Black Miami presents an evening with Haitian-American contemporary artist Édouard Duval-Carrié—known for realist paintings and installations that weave Haitian Vodou iconography, mythology, and historical figures into surreal mixed-media compositions.

Moderated by Rosie Gordon-Wallace, President and Founder of Diaspora Vibes Cultural Arts Incubator, this engaging conversation will spotlight Duval-Carrié’s artistic practice and his most recent project for the 2026 Venice Biennale—one of the art world’s oldest and most prestigious international exhibitions. Duval-Carrié’s work is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Art and the Detroit Institute of Arts, and was featured in the career-spanning survey Imagined Landscapes at Pérez Art Museum Miami (2014).

The evening also features a dance performance by A’Keitha Carey, Bahamas-born artist and FIU PhD candidate in Global Dance, followed by a curated reception and an exhibition of Duval-Carrié’s work.

Presented by GMCVB Art of Black Miami. Produced in partnership between The Betsy Writers Room and Florida International University’s Public Humanities Lab, with support from Pérez CreARTE, and in partnership with Iris Photo Collective.
