About this Event

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean today. The continued deforestation and degradation of the Amazon rainforest, the increasing pressure that droughts and shifting precipitation patterns have on the management of water resources in the Andean region, and the impact that increasing temperatures and erratic rainfall have on agriculture and food security in Central America are just three environmental factors posing serious governance and developmental challenges to states, economies, and societies in the region. No longer confined to environmental specialists, these issues now intersect with political, economic, and institutional factors that are crucial for the future governance and financial security of millions of people.

ProPELAC, the Program on the Political Economy of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Center for Latin American Studies, is pleased to host this convening that explores some of the most pressing challenges that climate change presents today. We hope you join us for this critical conversation on the future of our planet and the interconnected challenges we face.

This event is made possible thanks to an International Collaborative Grant from the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement at Georgetown University.
