The Contemporary Sounds Series presents a concert elevating and amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices with works by brin solomon, Aliyah Danielle, Jennifer Higdon, Mica Redden, Zachery Meier, and the tubist Chris Dickey. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in Burke Recital Hall. Tickets are not needed. Praised for their “smooth tone and melodic flexibility” by Melinda Bargreen of The Seattle Times, Chris Dickey (they/them) is a tubist and LGBTQIA+ community advocate on faculty at Washington State University. They have performed and taught throughout the United States, Canada, China, Vietnam, and South America. Their five solo albums have garnered praise and accolades from music critics and members of the brass community.
Acclaimed soloist and collaborative pianist Hana Chu has performed across North America, South America, the Middle East, and Korea with distinguished artists. Known for her diverse artistry, she has worked extensively as a chamber musician and premiered works such as Michael Torke’s Blue Pacific and HyeKyung Lee’s Gallop. A passionate advocate of new music, Chu frequently collaborates with composers and has performed with the New Juilliard Ensemble. Chu is currently on the faculty at Denison University.
Denison’s annual Contemporary Sounds Concert Series, directed by Zachery S. Meier, features performances by LGBTQIA+ Composers and Musicians that explore the art of storytelling through musical works.
