Confident Conversations: Defining Self-Management in Sexual Wellbeing
About this Event
What does self-management actually mean when it comes to sexual wellbeing?
Join us for a collaborative co-design workshop exploring what good self-management support could look like for people across Devon and Torbay.
The first phase of Devon & Torbay Connect highlighted self-management as an important opportunity. It could help people feel more confident, informed and empowered to look after their sexual wellbeing and access support earlier.
But it also raised an important question:
Are we all talking about the same thing when we say "self-management"?
For some, self-management means greater autonomy and confidence. For others, there is a risk that it could be interpreted as people being expected to manage their sexual wellbeing without the support they need.
This workshop is about exploring that tension together.
What will we explore?
Working with other professionals and organisations involved in supporting sexual wellbeing, we'll explore:
- What does self-management mean in sexual wellbeing?
- What does good, supported self-management look like in practice?
- What role should individuals, professionals, services and wider systems play?
- What helps people feel confident to manage their sexual wellbeing?
- When is self-management appropriate, and when is additional support needed?
- What resources, conversations, training and pathways could help make this work?
We'll use real-world scenarios and collaborative activities to explore how self-management might work for people with different experiences and needs.
And we'll create something together
Rather than arriving with a definition of self-management already decided, we want to develop one with you.
At the end of the session, we'll ask:
"What does self-management mean to us?"
Together, we'll develop a practical definition that reflects the discussion and experience of the group.
The findings from this event will be brought together with those from two other Devon & Torbay Connect co-design workshops. This will help us identify common themes, areas of difference and language that works - informing a shared Devon & Torbay approach to self-management.
