Help us learn more about bumble bees in western Colorado!
Join the Xerces Society for a comprehensive workshop to learn about and gain hands-on experience with the Bumble Bee Atlas in Colorado! The Mountain States Bumble Bee Atlas is a community science project to track and conserve bumble bees across Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Anyone is welcome to join; no prior experience is needed.
We'll start the day in a classroom setting at the Confluence Center in Grand Junction, where participants will learn the what, why, and how of becoming a Bumble Bee Atlas volunteer. After a break for lunch (on your own), we'll head to the Western Colorado Botanical Gardens for hands-on experience with bumble bee survey methods, including netting, chilling, and photographing bees. The Atlas uses non-lethal survey methods, so no bees are harmed during the project. Parts of the training will take place outside, so please bring water, snacks, closed-toed shoes, and sun protection.
Space is limited. Please register in advance at BumbleBeeAtlas.org/pages/events
