Cliffs of Sanctuary: Conversations with Refugees
About this Event
You will have the opportunity to meet people who have fled violence or abuse in their country of birth and to sit with them in small groups, listening and posing your questions directly to them. Whatever your political colour or views on migration, you are welcome to join a conversation in a spirit of courtesy and respect for one another. Reviewers have described these conversations as 'brilliant' and 'really thought-provoking. They remarked on the 'tenacity and courage of the speakers', their 'positivity and determination', and their 'gratitude at receiving sanctuary in the UK'.
Cliffs of Sanctuary is one of 125 grassroots groups affiliated with the City of Sanctuary UK movement. They seek to:
- Create a culture of welcome and inclusion for all
- Recognise and celebrate the contribution refugees bring to our towns and communities
- Alleviate fears and prejudice and foster a positive attitude among members of the public
- Encourage local councils, service providers, schools and institutions, arts, faith and community groups to become places of sanctuary.
Doors will open at 6pm and refreshments will be available.
