About this Event
Step Inside the Story of Folkestone’s Towering Timepiece
For anyone fascinated by ancient engineering or the quiet genius of historic clockwork, this guided session offers a rare chance to get up close to one of the oldest working tower clocks in the country. Housed within St Mary & St Eanswythe’s, this remarkable mechanism has marked the passing of time for more than half a millennium — and did so in the same location longer than any other known English tower clock.
During the tour you’ll explore how the clock works, what makes its construction so unusual, and how its components chart the evolution of metalworking and timekeeping technology across the centuries. It’s a living piece of craftsmanship that reveals its own history with every cog and beam.
Group numbers are kept small to allow everyone a clear view and the chance to ask questions.
Location: Nave of St Mary & St Eanswythe’s Church, Church Street, Folkestone, CT20 1SE
