About this Event

Discover the rich tapestry of Bukit Pasoh with our docents as we explore its diverse and intimate facets. From vibrant shophouses and striking street art to the impact of philanthropy, this tour uncovers the area's unique character.

Immerse yourself in the stories of Majies, Amahs, Coolies, 5-foot Traders, philanthropists, and Hindu and Muslim worshippers, set against the backdrop of carefully conserved architecture. Be inspired by their resilience and determination as they overcame poverty, despair, and hardship. Along Singapore's shores, they found not only dignity through hard work but also a spirit of perseverance and hope through community support and the generosity of philanthropists.

This Heritage Walk highlights the dreams of our forefathers and the efforts that transformed Singapore into the thriving nation it is today. Walk alongside the journey of our ancestors — transforming heartbreak to hope, and celebrating the power of fellowship – while appreciating how the conservation of our built heritage enables us to reflect on our shared identity.

About the Chinatown Heritage Walks

Thank you for your interest in joining the Chinatown Heritage Walks! This is a series of weekly walks to the four districts within the Chinatown Conservation Area.

A collaboration between the URA and Friends of the Museums (FOM), these two-hour walks are led by FOM docents. Besides learning about the rich history of Chinatown, you will also discover how our conservation efforts are an integral part of URA’s commitment to sustainable urban development, shaping the distinctive, liveable and endearing city we live in today.

Through these walks, you will also gain a better appreciation of the challenges in balancing different needs for land and the innovative solutions that we have adopted to overcome them, in tandem with URA's efforts to plan sustainably across our social, economic and environmental realms.
