About this Event

Chess Makers Lab: Design & Play is a creative hands-on workshop open to students ages 6–18 where participants will combine chess, engineering, and 3D design to create their own custom chess sets and play strategies. Students will learn how to design chess pieces and boards using 3D modeling software while exploring creativity, problem-solving, and design thinking through the game of chess.

Throughout the week, participants will develop skills in 3D design, digital fabrication, and strategic gameplay while learning the fundamentals of chess in a fun and collaborative environment. Students will sketch ideas, prototype pieces, and create personalized designs that can be 3D printed at the STEM Center. This workshop encourages creativity, critical thinking, and engineering skills while helping students build confidence both as makers and chess players.
