About this Event
2 day workshop - Saturday 7 & Sunday 8 February
10.30 am - 3 pm both days (with a 30 min lunch break)
Spend a weekend immersed in colour, exploring the expressive potential of chalk pastels through the subject of landscape.
We’ll look closely at works on paper by Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, and Vincent van Gogh, alongside examples from contemporary pastel practitioners, considering their mark-making, layering, and inventive use of colour. While the focus will be on chalk pastels, we’ll also experiment with combining them with pencil and light paint or ink washes. Inspired by these approaches, you’ll be guided step by step in creating your own chalk pastel landscapes.
About Pam Vaughan:
Pam Vaughan works mainly in drawing and printmaking, exploring animals, landscape, and a conversation about ‘aliveness’. This is shaped by an interest in Sumi-E painters, the poetry of Mary Oliver, yoga and mindfulness practice, and ideas from contemporary physics research. She sees mark-making as a physical and energetic extension of the body.
Exhibiting activities have included a national printmaking award, and being a finalist in the Sulman, Dobell and Kedumba exhibitions. She has taught extensively in community and education settings, including at Sydney University and the National Art School.
