Create your own prints to celebrate the return of the swifts to Kendal! Learn simple drypoint printing techniques using waste packaging.
About this Event

Join us for a relaxed evening of creative fun whilst we celebrate and learn about these amazing birds.

We will create simple images of swifts for printing, using waste packaging. You’ll learn how to use a basic press to create several copies from your design, and some techniques and tools for texture in the finished piece.

We will make a garland of swifts with some of your creations, and you can take others home to frame or use as greetings cards.

Once you have learned these simple techniques, you can use them time and again and have fun experimenting and exploring the possibilities. Come and learn this technique with us!

After the workshop, weather permitting, we will invite you to join us for a short wander to try and spot some swifts above the town at dusk.

Suitable for beginners. Accompanied children 12 years + are welcome.

We will provide:

  • all materials and tools you will need to create your prints
  • step-by-step guided instruction to drypoint printing
  • hot drinks and biscuits

What to bring

  • old clothes that you’re happy to get dirty in!
  • any printing tools if you have them (if not, we'll have plenty available to borrow or buy)
  • £5 in cash if you would like to take a small set of printing tools (scalpel & etching tool) home with you.
