Celebrating Osaki Washi: Exhibition and Demonstrations

Join us in for a washi-ful afternoon as we celebrate the work of Canadian artists using Seichosen and Seikosen washi made by Akari Osaki and family.
Artists will be demonstrating various media and techniques — from paper engineering, to painting, printmaking, and more.
We invite you to meet the artists, talk to them about their work and their use of washi. The papermakers will also be on site and will be demonstrating the making of a special brush used for smoothing wet sheets of washi onto boards for drying.
You may not immediately recognize the Osaki name, but many artists will recognize the exceptional papers they make: and Heritage Washi.
Made from 100% Japanese-grown fibres, using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations, these papers represent more than outstanding materials; they embody a living tradition, a deep respect for natural resources, and a commitment to making some of the most enduring and sustainable papers available today.

This is event is Pay What You Can. We suggest a donation of $20; please know, every donation is welcome and greatly appreciated.
Please note: Grants or subsidies are sometimes available to papermakers for travel outside of Japan. Unfortunately, no funding was available to the Osaki's. All donations will be given to the Osaki family to offset the cost of their visit and encourage the continued pursuit of excellence in their papermaking.
The exhibition will be available for viewing from Monday 28 September to Friday 30 October; weekdays between 9:30am and 4:30pm.
No admission fee to view the exhibition.
