About Vicki Virk – Co-Founder, Dholrhythms Dance Company & Non Stop Bhangra
Born and raised in Punjab, India, Vicki Virk is a cultural event producer, dance teacher, choreographer, and spokesperson dedicated to sharing and celebrating the arts through movement, music, and immersive experiences. Though she became an attorney, her heart was always drawn to a deeper calling -one rooted in dance, culture, and community - which inspired her on a different path. Over the past 20 years, alongside incredible partners Suman Raj and Jimmy Love and a passionate collective, she has helped shape Dholrhythms Dance Company and Non Stop Bhangra into nationally recognized cultural movements that bring people together through music, dance, and community-driven events.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dholrhythms Dance Company is a performing arts organization committed to promoting the artistic and cultural heritage of Punjab, India through dance classes, workshops, performances, and events. Since its inception in 2003, Dholrhythms has evolved into a unique platform where people from diverse backgrounds can come together to dance in a non-competitive and uplifting environment. At its core is an ensemble of women of different backgrounds and ages, celebrating movement, culture, and community. Led by Vicki’s Punjabi heritage, the company blends traditional folk dances of Punjab with contemporary influences, creating a unique and empowering space for self-expression. Through movement, Dholrhythms not only honors cultural traditions but also builds connections, fosters inclusivity, and makes Punjabi dance accessible to all.
Founded in 2004, Non Stop Bhangra evolved from a grassroots dance night into a nationally recognized platform, bringing Punjabi music, dance, and culture to the masses through large-scale productions and community-driven experiences. Together, Dholrhythms and Non Stop Bhangra have introduced thousands of people to the energy and spirit of Punjabi culture, making it accessible, inclusive, and a celebration of unity. Over the past two decades, they have curated, performed, and produced over 1,000 events across every type of platform—from performing arts centers and museums to festivals, nightclubs, and citywide celebrations.
Their performances have graced landmark venues including Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, War Memorial Opera House, Davies Symphony Hall, de Young Museum, Asian Art Museum, Stern Grove Festival, Oakland Museum of California, The Fillmore, TEDxSF, and more. Non Stop Bhangra has been voted Best Dance Party multiple times and continues to be a staple in the Bay Area’s cultural scene. Vicki has also represented the collective as a speaker at TEDxSF, sharing insights on culture, dance, and community-building.
In 2023, they co-launched Bhangra & Beats Night Market in partnership with Into the Streets Productions and the City of San Francisco, a groundbreaking event that draws 10,000–12,000 attendees per installment and was recognized as Best Night Market (Editor’s Pick) by 48 Hills. Non Stop Bhangra has also received two Certificates of Honor from the City of San Francisco and co-presented the city’s first official Diwali celebration. Their work continues to expand the reach of Punjabi music, dance, and culture through cross-cultural collaborations, large-scale productions, and community-driven experiences.
For Vicki and her collectives, the journey has always been about more than just music and dance - it’s about creating spaces where everyone, regardless of race, gender, or age, can move, express, and connect freely. Through cultural celebration, their work nurtures a sense of belonging and shared experience, bridging communities in meaningful ways.
Her story is a testament to following your passion, embracing the unknown, and trusting that sometimes, the most meaningful paths are the ones we never planned.
