A Montreal benefit concert to aid relief efforts following the wildfires in Los Angeles. The fires began January 7 and didn’t stop until February. Nearly 60,000 acres of land was burned. About 20,000 homes and structures including schools, churches, synagogues and mosques were destroyed. Over 200 thousand people were forced to evacuate their homes.
While many celebrities lost everything, entire towns and neighbourhoods not inhabited by the rich and famous were also wiped out.
About 20 top notch Montreal musicians will donate their time and salute the songbook of Laurel Canyon - an historic Los Angeles neighbourhood in the Hollywood Hills that was home to some of the most influential singers, songwriters and bands in music history - including Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Doors, Love, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Gram Parsons, Warren Zevon and so many others.
The concert will take place in the gorgeous and historic Grande Salle performance room at Le 9e - site of last November’s tribute to The Last Waltz.
Many of the same musicians - including Howard Bilerman, Shane Murphy, Jasmine Bleile, Chris Velan and members of El Coyote (Angela Desveaux, Katie Moore, Mike O’Brien, Michelle Tompkins) will take part joined by several others including Brad Barr, Murray Lightburn of The Dears and Matthew Woodley of Plants and Animals.
And - just back from their super charged gig on The Rock Legends Cruise - Leela Baum & Tom Shemer of The Damn Truth.
The night will feature two hour long sets plus a 20 minute intermission with raffle prizes via ticket purchase, including tickets to a Montreal Canadiens game, a Saku Koivu signed Habs jersey, dinners at Île-de-France restaurant and much more. 100% of proceeds above basic production costs (Sound, lighting and security) will go to a pair of longstanding LA based charities.
MusiCares was founded by the Recording Academy in 1989. It provides a safety net to members of the Los Angeles music community.
No Us Without You LA provides food security free of charge to underserved communities in the greater Los Angeles area.
Don’t miss this one-off event! Seating capacity is limited to 200.
