About this Event
Join Black-Eyed Suzy for a dynamic capoeira class that honors the Afro-Indigenous roots of this powerful tradition. Emerging from the resilience of enslaved Africans in Brazil, capoeira weaves together martial arts, dance, and music—often played on natural instruments like the berimbau, agogô, and atabaque, made from wood, gourd, and metal. This class explores how capoeira connects us to the earth through rhythm, movement, and communal energy. Ground your body, awaken your spirit, and learn an ancestral practice that moves with the elements. All levels and bodies welcome.
Black-Eyed Suzy (they/them) is a performing artist, choreographer, and drag performer with a degree in World Arts and Cultures from UCLA. They have performed internationally with dance companies in Latin America. Black-Eyed Suzy is passionate about learning Indigenous dance forms and sharing movement as a tool for connection, expression, and liberation.
