About this Event

“We will not save what we do not love,” wrote Jackie Morris’s co-author Robert Macfarlane.

Together, Morris and Macfarlane have collaborated on three books: The Lost Words, The Lost Spells, and most recently, The Book of Birds: A Field Guide to Wonder and Loss. The arts community—visual artists, writers, composers, and more—have noted the depletion of birds in our skies and are sounding the alarm so that more people learn to love birds and will work to save them.

In this panel, Jackie Morris is joined by Salt Spring Island artist Don Gunn, whose love for birds is apparent not only in his detailed drawings in Birds of a Feather: Field Notes and Portraits but the accompanying personal stories. In both books, the intimate descriptions of birds and their lives provide depth and understanding to them as individuals, not just random strangers flying by.

Join Jackie Morris and Don Gunn in a conversation about their work, their experiences with birds, and how their new books will bring attention to the crisis facing the planet. The discussion will also provide ideas on ways to reverse the trend.

Tickets include AGGV admission
