About Kate:
Kate Gillespie has spent over two decades studying the body and how it moves. How and why it compensates, adapts, and sometimes breaks down.
What began as a personal search for relief of her own pain evolved into a lifelong study of movement science.
Kate is known for translating complex concepts into experiences that feel accessible, intuitive, deeply effective and fun. Drawing from Postural Restoration, Pilates, mobility training, strength work, and yoga, she teaches with both a technical lens and a deeply human approach.
Kate’s Functional Flow classes blend science-based movement principles, ribcage and breathing mechanics, and functional mobility into flow-based sequences that are both educational and grounding.
Whether teaching public classes in Vancouver or leading trainings and retreats around the world, Kate’s goal is always the same: to help people better understand their bodies, move with more ease and resilience, and feel more connected to themselves.
In 2020, Kate and Matt Phippen founded an online studio called Movement Method, which now has hundreds of classes and several courses to share their knowledge.

Redefining Core
Info: Saturday Afternoon. Your core is so much more than sit-ups and a six-pack. It’s an intelligent system of stability - created by multiple muscles working together to manage pressure, posture, and movement.
The Stack is a powerful approach to alignment and stabilization that brings the ribcage and pelvis into optimal relationship, stacking the respiratory and pelvic diaphragms. This creates the foundation for a strong, dynamic, and responsive core.
You’ll learn how to create intra-abdominal pressure, and the vital role that your hamstrings play in posture. This work goes far beyond your mat practice. It shapes how you move, breathe, and stabilize - every step, every day.
All levels welcome.
🕑: 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Master the Hip Shift
Info: Sunday Afternoon. Rotation is at the heart of how we move. Every step you take is a rotation around your midline - pelvis turning over a leg, ribcage turning over the pelvis, an opposite arm to leg swing, and force transferring smoothly across the body. When we lack rotation of the hip, we compensate with rotation of the lumbar spine, which is a major cause of lower back pain.
This workshop is about unlocking space and building strength in the back of the pelvis to be able to hip shift. We’ll explore the the cross-corset connection, which is the diagonal relationship between the two sides of the body that creates efficient rotation.
You’ll learn how the body organizes rotation through the midline, how the ribcage and pelvis communicate across diagonals, and how breath plays a critical role in activating the obliques and deep core to support rotational control. All levels welcome.
